The person’s permission to provide care
Where is the licence record?
Florida’s health department offers a free search to check a person’s licence, background and public records of penalties or restrictions on their licence.
Choose the person’s profession and match their name. If the result is unclear, ask for their licence details and check again.

What if the person providing care is in another state?
As of September 2026, a Florida licence allows care over a screen for patients in Florida without extra telehealth registration.
Florida also accepts licences covered by a shared licensing agreement it has joined.
Ask for the agreement’s name and the licence record that covers care in Florida. A licence from another state alone does not answer that question.
Another route is Florida registration for a health professional licensed elsewhere.
As of September 2026, this registration gives permission for remote care. It is not a Florida licence, and it gives no permission to run an office or see patients here in person.
Ask for the licence or registration number that covers your visit.

The law has exceptions to this registration step for care responding to a medical emergency. It also lets a doctor in another state advise your Florida-licensed doctor without registering, if your Florida doctor keeps the final say over your health condition and treatment.

What about the clinic’s licence?
Many Florida clinics need a licence from the Agency for Health Care Administration, as of September 2026. An exemption applies to some practices that licensed health professionals own, so those practices do not need that separate clinic licence.
A missing clinic licence alone does not establish wrongdoing, because an exempt practice does not need one.

Can I ask to see the charges?
Clinics covered by that licensing law must publish charges for cash-paying patients, as of September 2026.
Ask for the charge list and a quote for the proposed care. Keep any separate medicine or test quote alongside it.
