Care & cost notes

What am I trying to find out?

A useful conversation starts with your concern. A product menu can wait.

The goal and the medicine

What do I want help with?

Write the main concern in your own words. Note the steps you have tried so far and the change you hope for.

Ask the person providing your care what condition they think is involved. A diagnosis is a name for a health condition.

  • What is the goal of care?
  • How would we tell whether it is helping?
  • What other options could meet that goal?

Which medicine is being discussed?

Ask for the ingredient name and the finished product name. Ask whether the proposed medicine is approved or made to order.

Keep that answer with the quote. Comparing fees without the medicine’s name leaves the comparison unfinished.

Can the assessment end without a prescription?

The national organisation for state medical boards advises that a doctor’s pay should not hinge on a patient getting a wanted prescription or referral.

A referral means you are sent to another health professional. Ask what happens to any visit or membership charge if the person providing your care recommends another kind of treatment.

What answers do I need before paying?

The medicine’s name. The reason for it. The prescriber’s name. The full fees. The plan for questions and follow-up.

Take any gaps into the next conversation. You do not need to settle the whole choice at once.
